Day 4: Highlights in early breast cancer
Day 4 at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) is summarised here by Dr Kristof Van Berckelaer, gynaecologist at the University Hospital Antwerp. He presented results from the prospective ACOSOG Z11102 phase 2 trial evaluating the impact of breast conservation therapy on local recurrence in patients with multiple ipsilateral breast cancer. The OPBC-04/EUBREAST-06/OMA study evaluated oncological outcomes following omission of axillary lymph node dissection in a real world cohort of node positive patients downstaging to node negative with neoadjuvant chemotherapy. 10-year results of a phase 3 trial of low-dose tamoxifen in elderly breast cancer patients was also discussed. Primary results from the POSITIVE trial were presented, where the authors looked at the possibility of interrupting endocrine treatment in young breast cancer patients so they can get pregnant.
