ZORALCS is a four-year prospective, feasibility implementation study evaluating the participation rate and effectiveness of a lung cancer screening program combined with a structured smoking cessation program in Flanders. For this study, adults aged 55-74 years living in the primary care zone South-East Region of Antwerp (ZORA) get a letter at home. If they smoked more than 100 cigarettes in their life, they are asked to fill in an online questionnaire which contains the two following risk prediction models: PLCOm2012 and HUNT. When eligible, the respondents must read and confirm the informed decision making and informed consent. Participants undergo annual low-dose CT screening for two years. If a participant of the ZORALCS-study still smokes or stopped less than one year ago, they are offered smoking cessation support in the TAMIRO-STOP study. This is a randomised controlled trial in which participants are randomly assigned to a minimal intervention at the hospital plus eight free sessions of evidence-based smoking cessation counselling by a tobaccologist, or referral to a primary health care provider of their own choice (control group)
