Presented by Dr Lucas Boussingault (Erasme hospital Brussels, Belgium)
Dr Lucas Boussingault, dermatology resident at Erasme hospital in Brussels performed a retrospective analysis on LC-OCT images obtained prior to biopsy in twenty male patients presenting with penile erythematous lesions. Preliminary findings suggest that inflammatory dermatoses display characteristic LC-OCT patterns, enabling differentiation between entities such as balanitis and lichen planus. Most importantly, LC-OCT improves the ability to identify suspicious lesions requiring biopsy, particularly in cases where carcinoma may clinically mimic inflammation.
Although this study is limited by its small sample size and retrospective design, the results highlight the promise of LC-OCT as a non-invasive diagnostic adjunct in male genital dermatology. Larger, prospective studies are warranted to validate disease-specific imaging patterns and to establish the role of LC-OCT in guiding biopsy decisions.
